Historic preview

The name of RWAMAGANA comes from two words "RWA" that mean some
Kinyarwanda "Relative to" and MAGANA that means several hundreds. Therefore,
RWAMAGANA means "place where one finds several hundreds of cows" to
reason of an abundance of the cows that characterized this region, as
affirm it NDEKEZI T., in its memory title "« Monographie historique de
Buganza méridional 1894-1931, 1986, p. 139 ».

Of the same author, the hill of Rwamagana was, since the beginning of the reign
RWABUGILI, the capital of the royal Province of the East of the Country that was confided to one,
high NKUNDUKOZERA dignitary until the Prince SHARANGABO, son,
of the king, becomes major.

In addition to SHARANGABO, Rwamagana was under a chief's direction
stupendous RWABUTOGO son of KABARE (brother of the queen of KANJOGERA) of
1931-1945.
This chief counsel it particular of the Mwami MUTARA IV RUDAHIGWA.
In 1919, the white fathers arrive to Rwamagana, the foundation of the mission,
Catholic corresponded to the objective to get by the centers of decision,
close to the traditional chiefs.
At the end 1940, Rwamagana played a role of double radiance:
Traditional by the administration and cultural by the mission. It creates
incontestably an indisputable advantage that can permit the birth and
develop it of an urban agglomeration.
The City of Rwamagana knew a big success in the active period of 1978
to 1987 after the confirmation of the urban circumscription of Rwamagana to the
national level (1979), the foreign tradesmen had confidence and
began to vest to Rwamagana in the domain of the trade.
Before the introduction of the Politics of decentralization of 2001, the Township,
Rutonde, one of the Townships of the ex - Prefecture Kibungo that counted 7
Sectors (Nsinda, Nyarusange, Rwikubo, Kigabiro, Mwulire, Rutonde and Sovu)
became the Township of Rwamagana that is in the region
natural and historic of Buganza Sud.
Currently, the District of Rwamagana is the result of the recent reform
administrative of December 31, 2005. He/it is descended of the fusion of the old
Districts of Muhazi, Bicumbi, two sectors of Gasabo (Fumbwe and Mununu),
three sectors of Kabarondo (Kaduha, Rweru and Nkungu) and the township of
Rwamagana.

Nearly 90% of the population of Rwamagana live agriculture and it has
a fundamental importance for the economy of the District. As everywhere
in the different regions of the Country, agriculture and the daily life
are bound.

While considering the cultures cultivated in the District we can subdivide them in two types of cultures, notably:

the cultures who don't need to pass in industries for transformation
and the cultures who need to pass in industiries for transformation.

Cultures don't need transformation

We finds the legumes (bean, peanut, small weight etc.); the
cereals (sorghum, the but, etc.) and the tubers (sweet potato, cassava,
etc.)

AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION ACCORDING TO THE TYPE OF CULTURE

While considering the cultures cultivated in the District we can subdivide them in two types of cultures, notably:

the cultures who don't need to pass in industries for transformation
and the cultures who need to pass in industiries for transformation.

Cultures don't need transformation

We finds the legumes (bean, peanut, small weight etc.); the
cereals (sorghum, the but, etc.) and the tubers (sweet potato, cassava,
etc.)

Culture need Transformation

Coffee, pepper, Moringa, vanilla and Macadamias are considered as the cultures who need transformation .

To these cultures to be added the banana tree, rice and the tomato who
need at the same time transformation and not.
Rice knows, a big success in
Rubona sectors, Munyaga and Kigabiro,
adjacent sectors of the swamp of cyaruhogo,

Welcome to Rwamagana District Official Website

It is nice that you have taken your valuable time to stop by our website. The website has been designed to offer information about our District but also provide an evenue where you can reach us and share information, views, ideas and comments with us.

As the world adopts to the information age, citizen of the planet we inhabit are quickly transforming their way of life to suit the new times by transcending the old civilization that based human interaction to race, color, sex, religion, geographical location etc. The world has become a community of civilised people who are using information to reach out for goods and services that can satisfy their needs and wants.

Almost a decade ago, our country made what seemed to be a radical ressolve. By embracing a vision codenamed "Vision 2020" The country sought to transform the country from an old administrative tradition to an information based society. At that time almost ten years ago, many saw this as a nightmare. Today one out of ten Rwandans owns a mobile phone which device he can use not just to to make and receive calls, but to make calculation, send text message, take pictures and even receive internet.

Today Rwanda is one big internet hotsport. You can connect to high speed internet from the remotest corner of our country be it in the forest, on the top of a mountain or on the lake. Our pouplation is more connected than it has ever been before.

As that vision continues to spread root, through spread of infrastructure such as the laying of a fiber optic backbone nationwide, establishment of tele-centers, training of the population and many others, Rwanda looks set for the challenges of the Global Mellenium Development Goals.

Rwamagana District is one of Nation's districts that has refused to stay behind. We have faith in the "Vision" and our ressolve is as good as our country's.
