Rwamagana District has 10 dispensaries, 3 major hospitals and 3 health centers. The district has 7 pharmacies. AVEGA (An association of genocide widows and women) has one hospital. There is olso 1 district pharmacy. Rwamagana is one of the districts in the country that is very active in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS, as a result a counseling center for HIV was built.

The district has put in place a strong health insurance policy and to that effect a health insurance office has been put in place.

Having this infrastructure in place would only be useless with out skilled trained medical practictioners to do the job. It is against this background that the District ahs managed to employ 7 qualified Doctors and other 316 nurses and health care employees.
Statistics show that 75% of the district residents have a health insurance cover this number is far bigger than the number of those in other insurance policies. This is because the number of civil servants and the military is relatively low compared to the general population of the district.

The number of families practicing family planning is 7% which is still too low but this is because women have not actively participated in family planning programs and procedures.There is also a religions factor which discourages modern family planning practices like contraceptives. It should however be noted that the information and communication methodology used to spread the family planning gospel has not been as effective as it should be.
